Tajik President In Russia For Talks With Putin

17 Apr 2019, 22:17 GMT+10

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, who is in Russia on a two-day official visit, is due to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Ahead of the talks, Rahmon said at a meeting with the members of the Tajik community in Moscow that regulation of labor migration and protection of rights and interests of Tajik citizens in Russia will top the agenda of his meetings with the Russian leadership.

Rahmon and Putin are expected to sign several agreements during their Moscow talks, the Kremlin has said.

Russia's ambassador to Dushanbe, Igor Lyakin-Frolov, said the documents the two countries will sign during the Tajik presidents visit will in particular make it possible to improve the supply of Tajik agricultural goods to Russia.

Tajikistan's Foreign Ministry, in turn, said agreements on cooperation in the migration sector are also to be signed.

During a meeting with State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin in Moscow on April 16, Rahmon said that they will include an agreement on 'organized recruitment of migrant workers from Tajikistan.'
