BEIJING, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 6,431 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its national total to 1,122,241, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Wednesday.

Meanwhile, 150 new deaths were reported, taking the death toll to 19,799, it said.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 1,666 new COVID-19 cases and 37 new deaths on Wednesday, bringing the total cases to 352,287 and the death toll to 5,044, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The official data showed that 14,150 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 147 new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday, bringing the national total to 10,505.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that four of the new cases are imported and 143 are local transmissions, with the majority reported from the country's North Borneo state of Sabah.

TBILISI -- Georgia reported 227 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing its national total to 4,140, the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health said.

Of the new cases, 165 were confirmed in the western Adjara region, said the center.

WASHINGTON -- The United States needs more COVID-19 tests to bring the COVID-19 outbreak under control as the country has reported more than 200,000 deaths from the virus, local media has reported.
