BEIJING, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

KABUL -- The Afghan Ministry of Public Health on Monday confirmed 26 daily COVID-19 cases, bringing the national tally to 55,759, including 3,969 active cases.

Two patients died during the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 2,446 since February last year, the ministry said in a statement.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the African continent reached 3,891,047 as of Sunday evening, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

According to the continental disease control and prevention agency's COVID-19 dashboard, the death toll related to the pandemic stood at 103,519 so far.

JAKARTA -- A total of 24 more overseas Indonesians have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total cases in this group to 3,604, according to the Foreign Ministry on Monday.

Of the new cases, 14 were reported in Cambodia, five in Vatican City, three in Kuwait, one each in Britain and China's Taiwan.

ADDIS ABABA-- Ethiopia registered 1,019 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 159,072 as of Sunday evening, the country's Ministry of Health said.

The ministry said 11 new deaths from the coronavirus were reported across the country during the same period, bringing the national death toll to 2,365.

MOSCOW -- Russia confirmed 11,571 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 4,257,650, the country's COVID-19 response center said Monday.

Meanwhile, 86,455 related deaths and 3,823,074 recoveries from the disease were reported, the center said.
