TEHRAN, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday called for boosting trade exchanges among the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) member states, particularly in the post-pandemic era, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Rouhani made the remarks when addressing via video links the 14th summit of the ECO, themed "regional economic cooperation in the aftermath of COVID-19."

Saying the ECO is a successful model of regional convergence, he called for accelerated implementation of the ECO goals and its inter-state trade agreements.

The Iranian president proposed the idea of activating and supporting the ECO subsidiary organizations, such as the ECO bank, insurance, standards, and chamber of commerce.

The ECO was established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey. Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan joined the organization later.
