ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia reported 1,107 new COVID-19 cases and six more deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the national counts to 19,672 and 43 respectively, the National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) said Friday.

Meanwhile, the total number of recovered patients in the country stood at 11,044 including 406 new recoveries over the past 24 hours, the NCCD said in a statement. (Mongolia-Coronavirus)

WINDHOEK -- Namibia on Thursday suspended all poultry and bird imports from neighboring South Africa following an avian flu outbreak there.

Chief Veterinary Officer Albertina Shilongo with the Namibian Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, said the suspension is in place as a pre-cautionary measure in the next 21 days. (Namibia-Poultry-Import)

PYONGYANG -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Thursday night denounced Japan's decision to discharge radioactive wastewater into sea as a "threat to human existence," reported the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

The Japanese government's decision, made in disregard of strong international opposition, would be "another disaster upon mankind suffering from malignant epidemic," the KCNA said in a commentary. (DPRK-Japan-Nuclear Wastewater)

BRASILIA -- Brazil's Federal Supreme Court (STF) on Thursday upheld the annulment of ex-president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's convictions on corruption charges, clearing the way for him to run again in next year's general elections.

By a vote of eight to three, the court rejected an appeal by the Attorney General's Office against the annulment of the convictions handed down by a federal court in the state of Parana, which stemmed from charges brought by the so-called anti-corruption Operation Car Wash.
