JERUSALEM -- Israel carried out early on Monday new heavy airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, claiming that they destroyed militant tunnels and homes of nine Hamas officials.
An Israeli spokesperson said in a statement that the overnight air raids targeted the Hamas "Metro" tunnel system in the northern Gaza Strip. In the attack, 54 Israeli warplanes struck some 35 alleged terror targets and 15 km of the tunnel system. (Israel-Gaza-Airstrikes)

OUAGADOUGOU -- At least nine people were killed when attacking a position of the Defense of the Motherland (VDP) in Burkina Faso on Sunday in the central part of the country, local sources said.

HERAT, Afghanistan -- Three Taliban militants were killed on Monday morning when a homemade improvised roadside bomb they were planting exploded in Afghanistan's western Herat province, the local government confirmed.
The incident occurred along a district road in Adraskan district, in the south of provincial capital Herat city early Monday, the government said in a statement. (Afghanistan-Bombing-Death)
